GRANTS FOR
WATER/SEWERAGE CHARGES
IMPORTANT CHANGES
JANUARY 2010
- THE TRUST FUND IS RECEIVING INCREASING NUMBERS OF APPLICATIONS FOR
GRANTS TOWARDS WATER / SEWERAGE CHARGES WHICH HAS PLACED
UNPRECEDENTED DEMAND ON OUR FUNDS.
- TO ENABLE US TO CONTINUE HELPING PEOPLE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR THE
TRUST HAS DECIDED TO ADOPT NEW CRITERIA FOR GRANT APPLICATIONS.
- PLEASE READ BELOW/OVERLEAF CAREFULLY AS THERE ARE SOME IMPORTANT
CHANGES.
Message to Advisers:
We very much regret that due to the overwhelming number of applications the Trust is
receiving it has been necessary to review our policy and make some important changes.
The alternative would have been to stop considering applications in the coming months;
a situation that Trustees are anxious to avoid.
We hope advisers will understand the need to review policy to ensure that the fund can
continue to help those in financial difficulty.
Trustees are aware that an increasing number of people in debt are finding it more and
more difficult to manage their financial situations and that a grant towards their water
charges provides both financial and emotional relief.
Criteria for applying for a grant toward Water/Sewerage Charges:
A grant will only be given where it is considered that the applicant would be able, in the
future, to manage a sustainable budget for essential expenditure without getting into
further debt.
The form must be completed in full with all sections answered as comprehensively as
possible. Please remember you are competing for limited funds.
We regret that applications for help with water debt will NOT be considered if:
- The applicant has less than £250 outstanding on their account*
- The application contains insufficient information
* Unless the application can demonstrate that there are exceptional circumstances
either by way of a comprehensive explanation in the application or a covering letter.
Please note:
The changes will take immediate effect and new criteria will also be applied to any application that is awaiting a decision. Applications for other grants available are not affected.
